PTSD Therapy
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a complex and pervasive disorder that can impact multiple areas of a person’s life, including work, relationships, school and even one’s outlook on the future. The disorder results from a previous trauma, such as those experienced by Police or Military personnel and can also develop as a result of abuse early in one’s life, or painful emotional experiences in childhood. At Meridian Behavioral Health, we take a comprehensive approach to PTSD Counseling. To improve the symptoms of the illness, it is often necessary to focus on many areas of one’s life simultaneously.
PTSD Counseling Services
PTSD Counseling can include training in dealing with the difficult emotional states that the patient experiences, and often focuses on relational functioning, as social support is one of the major factors identified in recovering from the disorder. Trauma and PTSD Counseling also often incorporate steps to teach the person to successfully deal with the troubling thoughts and painful memories that accompany the disorder. There is no “quick fix” for PTSD, although you will find many people that promise quick cures that are simply not supported by science. PTSD symptoms improve by re-teaching your “Fight or Flight” system to operate normally, while strengthening the areas of your life known to help support recovery from the disorder. Effective trauma therapists are empathic, well versed in current science, and are focused on your long term recovery of this difficult condition. PTSD Counseling can make a major difference, particularly when combined with other treatments such as medication management by a physician.
